Designate and Consecrate the Circle: Building the Altar You Can't See
My altar is a table with candles and stones on it. My temple is much larger than that, and it has to be claimed before any work begins.
There's the altar you can touch, and there's the one you can't. The first holds my tools. The second holds me, my space, my workings, and the line of light that runs from all of it up to Divine Source. I created this ritual to build that second altar, and I build it every time.
Designate and Consecrate the Temple: protect your workings
The Smoke and the Shell
I begin with a smudge, either sage or palo santo, resting in an abalone shell. When the smoke rises, all four elements are already in my hands: the herb from the earth, the ember's fire, the rising smoke of air, and the shell that was shaped by the sea.
Then I walk the circle. It surrounds my altar, but it doesn't stop there. It takes in my body, and it rises above the crown of my head, into the space beyond the crown chakra. That's the point of the whole ritual. My workings aren't limited to the solid surface in front of me. They reach as high as I'm willing to reach.
Claiming Your Own Sacred Space
Every space holds its own energy, and learning to read and claim it is a skill, not a script. Ritual and ceremony are best experienced first with a guide, someone who can help you feel where your circle begins and how far it truly extends.
Ritual Workings are offered to anyone who has already had a Personal Reading with me. Together, we can designate and consecrate a circle that belongs to your space, your altar, and your path.
Designating the Circle
With the circle drawn, I hold the smudge above my head, pointing upward, and speak:
"I designate my sacred temple, my sanctum sanctorum, my magic circle."
Then I call upon the elements that guard and empower the space.
I turn to the East and say, "From the East in Air." A breeze sweeps lightly through the circle, carrying inspiration and clarity.
I turn to the South and say, "From the South in Fire." The flames of transformation flicker and fill the space with courage and strength.
I turn to the West and say, "From the West in Water." Emotion and intuition flow in gently, connecting me to the deep well of spirit.
I turn to the North and say, "From the North in Earth." The grounding power of the Earth anchors the circle, bringing stability and protection.
Consecrating the Circle
Designating marks the space. Consecrating makes it holy.
I take the Magician's pose, the posture of the first card of the Major Arcana: right hand pointing toward heaven, left hand pointing toward earth. In this position I'm not only standing in the circle. I'm the connection between the divine and the material, the channel through which the magic flows. As above, so below.
"I consecrate my sacred temple. May this circle be strong and protected, and may my magical workings be fruitful."
No one who walks into the room afterward would see anything different. The table is still a table, and the candles are still candles. But the space has been claimed, from the floor beneath my feet to the light above my crown, and whatever I do next, I do inside a temple that I've named as sacred and offered back to its Source.
A ritual working with Divinely Designed is only offered following a Personal Reading, if recommended. A Ritual Working will allow you to partner in magic with Divinely Designed and may include crystal gridwork, magic workings, advanced readings of Tarot or Oracle Cards, and other rituals based on Western Mystery Traditions.
