Gemini Season
Gemini is the third sign in our astrological season. Gemini is a Mutable (ending) Air Sign, a changeable thought and flexible communication sign, the vibration required to turn spring into Summer and occurs at a time of year associated with rites of passage such as graduations. Gemini is a masculine, yang, projective energy and it is during Gemini season that annually, Father’s Day is celebrated.
Gemini rules the 3rd house of the Zodiac, which is all about communication – the mind, thought processes, speaking and writing styles, research and data collection, early education, siblings, neighborhoods, socializing and day-to-day perspectives of life.
Whatever sits in your 3rd reveals what you think about your world, and the ways that you communicate your thoughts to your inner circle – close friends and siblings.
As the third astrological sign, Gemini is associated with your teens, a time when we are beginning to see our own interests reflected in the world around us and first develop the voice that we will carry into adulthood. This is a time in life when we are stretching our wings, rebelling, but also starting to identify what makes sense to us.
According to my own astrology teacher, AM Penn of Tenth House Sun, “Gemini is Latin for twins, and twins are known for their duality. Identical twins becoming two beings from one zygote. Functioning independently, but always connected.” She also pointed out that the Tarot card most associated with Gemini is The Lovers: a symbolic depiction of the one-to-one-two-one equation. She wrote, “In The Lovers, there is a choice to be made, and Gemini’s speciality is gathering data to help make the decision. In doing so it allows the messenger (that’s the Mercury influence here) to see both sides of the polarity adn the full spectrum in between.” Famous Gemini communicators include musicians Miles Davis and Tupac, and poets Walt Whitman and William Butler Yeats.
Gemini is Ruled by Mercury: Ability to travel anywhere / Has everything it needs to do its job / Change minds with mutable (ending) air energy / Smallest planet but fastest moving
Gemini is Exalted in the South Node: Short range travel / contracting / reflecting the past / understanding where we have been
Gemini is in Detriment (where the sign is not comfortable expressing itself) in Jupiter: Gemini wants the details whereas Jupiter is the big picture / Jupiter (the biggest planet) is more concerned with full cycles while Gemini is seeking the polarity and specifics
Gemini is in Fall (negative placement, diminished energy) in North Node: expanding like Jupiter / North Node reflects our calling or life purpose / North Node is about the future while Gemini is still mining the past for useful information
Gemini season begins on May 20th and runs through June 20th. It is followed on June 21st by the sign of Cancer.
All air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) are intelligent and inventive, they love data and analysis, may sometimes be a bit flighty or hard to pin down, are partial to social causes and strive for balance and equality in all they do, often do best in group situations as opposed to one-on-one, handle projects well if they plan for them in advance, and are sometimes prone to fantasy and daydreaming.
During the Sun season of Gemini (May 20 to June 20), no matter your personal sun sign, you will notice a lighter change of pace from heavy, plodding Taurus – feeling upbeat and free-spirited just in time for the summer. Your message will be key – and you’ll give a lot of time and thought to how you wish to communicate in the days and weeks ahead, buoyed by an increased curiosity and the desire to interact more with others especially in social and educational circles. The exchange of information will be key – particularly after two plus years of isolation and the tedium of work-from-home situations. So say yes to opportunities to share ideas with others in any medium, and even to be a bit of a social butterfly. You have a lot to learn, and you’ll do that best in an easy, relaxed, go-with-the-flow methodology where you are sharing ideas and info with others.
Gemini is ruled by the Planet Mercury, named for the winged messenger God (also known as Hermes in the Greek). The planet Mercury was named for the God because it is the fastest-moving planet in our solar system – it moves along at the kind of pace associated with bike messengers in the 90s, and I know because a family member of mine was one! Mercury lies between the Earth and the Sun, effectively creating the bridge between you and what fuels you. Mercury in your natal chart shows you the best ways that you will think and share your ideas with others.
Mercury rules both Gemini and Virgo and is associated with technology, higher education, literature and the written word, telecommunications, satellites, music, and weather.
You know how Mercury shifts between Direct and Retrogrades several times a year? In some ways I think of airy Gemini as the Direct, forward-motion, Speedy Gonzalez version of Mercury, and earthy Virgo as the Retrograde version, asking everyone to slow their roll and maybe even forcing them to do so.
The Mercury influence in Gemini creates a seeker – someone looking for answers and willing to explore in order to find, and to share the truth. In Virgo, that energy transmutes into action – using that information to move forward, always, in Virgo’s case toward physical health and work and community service.
Gemini in your Natal Chart:
Let’s talk about its influence on your Natal Chart. Have your chart handy so that we can go through the list.
If you haven’t already pulled your chart, you can do so at: https://www.astro.com/cgi/ade.cgi?ract=genchart.cgi&lang=e
If you have Gemini in your:
Sun: Your Sun Sign describes the heart and soul of your personality, what motivates and drives you, and who you are learning to become.
Gemini Sun frequently change, possessing two or more distinct personalities. They are curious, knowledgeable, love to find humor in almost everything, and are often the best person to hang out with at a party. They tend to be strong in relationships and friendships especially when their partner provides lots of intellectual dialogue. They hate to be bored especially by dull conversations – never discuss the weather with a Gemini Sun!
Moon: Your Moon Sign describes your instinctive and emotional nature. While your Sun Sign describes the qualities you are learning to develop, your Moon usually describes who you already are.
A social butterfly, but one prone to mood swings and irritability. Constantly changing, they keep things lively for others and often have many projects going on at once. “Speak before you think” is their motto and they are talented imitators who handle stress well and can organize events like a pro. Gemini Moons need change, adventure and the company of others – they cannot survive on their own.
Ascendant: Ascendant is another way of saying “Rising Sign” and your ascendant shows the way you project yourself, how others see you, and the kind of experiences needed to make your life meaningful.
Curious, seeking, social and inquisitive. Gemini Ascendents are clever but restless and they love to solve puzzles. Their Gemini nature can be two-fold – one is bubbly, eccentric and fun-loving, the other is witty and clever to a fault. No filter here! Sometimes these folks tell people what they think they want to hear rather than the truth. They make great teachers, writers and researchers, but also gifted with handiwork. They hate schedules. Chaos, space and freedom are their strong suit!
Mercury: Mercury is the first planet from the Sun. In Greek mythology, Mercury was Hermes - the winged messenger god. The movements of Mercury are believed to influence communication here on Earth. Mercury rules the signs of the intellect Gemini and Virgo.
Where Mercury falls on your natal chart can inform the way that an individual thinks and makes sense of their world.
Make sure you let me know if there is a lower case R at the end of your information, which would indicate a Retrograde. A retrograde in any sign means that the energy is turned inward, or flipped upside down, essentially blocking or diminishing that energy in your chart.
Gemini Mercury needs a lot of stimulation. They are highly sensitive to their environment, and without structure they tend to be a bit scattered in their thoughts and presentation. They are gifted public speakers and adaptive to the ideas of others. They are also astute in their observations of other people and might even test the people around them to see how strong their ideas hold up.
Venus: Venus is the second planet to the sun, and the closest planet both to Earth and our moon. In Greek mythology Venus was known as Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty. Venus was formed from the foam of the sea and rose from the waters to bestow her beauty upon us. Venus rules the signs of Taurus (representing money) and Libra (representing love and relationships).
In your natal chart, Venus will indicate how you feel about wealth, your home, your relationships, and your health – that which is closest to you and often affects you the strongest.
Witty to the point of being a social magnet, Gemini Venus can talk about any subject under the sun and make it interesting. But they prefer to talk about light-hearted matters and even in relationships, don’t want things to be too serious. Natural flirts, they’ll use this talent to hint at ideas with others without committing to an opinion or a decision. They love travel, are not particularly sentimental, but have a childlike charm when it comes to matters of the heart. Want some juicy gossip? Go find a Venus in Gemini because they’ll have the latest and the greatest!
Mars: Mars is the fourth planet from the Sun, named for the Roman God of War (the Greeks called him Ares). Mars is the patron saint of the military forces and although he is synonymous with war, Mars believed that war should only be declared in order to establish a lasting peace.
Mars in your natal chart reflects your will – about sex, passion and energy, and how you choose to express it. Mars highlights the lengths you will go, to get what you desire.
Easily bored, these folks have a passion for debate and love using their words to get what they want. They prefer to keep busy but tend to be restless in quiet environments. Witty, sarcastic but a bit erratic and impractical. Mars in Gemini would make a great critic or journalist, and they can understand a host of ideas at one time. They are always learning new information and tend to have many acquaintances rather than a few close friends. They are great musicians but also good with their hands.
Jupiter: Jupiter is the fifth planet from the Sun, and the largest in our solar system. Because it is the largest and one of the brightest planets in our constellation, it is often visible to the naked eye and was known to even ancient civilizations long before the invention of the telescope. Named for the Roman god Jupiter (Zeus in Greek), God of the sky and thunder and King of all of the Gods.
Our largest planet actually emits more energy into space than it receives from the Sun! Anytime Jupiter shows up in a birth chart will indicate where a person has a great quantity of something.
Where Jupiter falls in our chart highlights our beliefs in something greater than ourselves. It’s our spiritual and religious life, and our relationship with God. Therefore, it also reflects our morals and values. It also influences our travels in life.
Versatile, talented and friendly – these folks love learning and meeting new people. They can see all sides in an argument which puts them in a good neutral position, and they can handle lots of ideas and thoughts at one time. They are great performers, strong debaters and communicators, and endlessly interesting. They also tend to do well at building wealth although they are way more interested in IQ points than the Dow Jones.
Saturn: The sixth planet from the Sun, the second largest in our solar system, Saturn is a gaseous planet about nine times larger than Planet Earth. Named after the Roman god of wealth and agriculture, Saturn on your natal chart represents boundaries. Saturn is a constricting energy, bringing structure and meaning to our world. Saturn is about the time in your life, and matter (your physical self) and helps us to define the many segments of our lives and where we may need more self-control.
Saturn represents father figures – our literal fathers and those who form us through mentorship or even neglect.
Adaptable, but not a quick study. These folks take their time learning a subject, making sense of it, and then never forgetting the meaning of it. They are not fans of public speaking and need to learn to develop stronger communication skills. But they can present information to others in ways that cuts out a lot of the nonsense. Constantly gaining new ideas and insights, these Gemini Saturns are organized, interested in history, stable, with strong writing skills. They often feel isolated, and a good way to counteract that feeling is for them to teach their knowledge to others.
Uranus: Uranus is the planet of genius. It gives people who are born with it a social conscience, great independence of mind and originality in their thought. This astrological significator can make you creative, innovative and quick-witted or impulsive, erratic and irresponsible.
It is the planet of awakening, individuality and liberty. It represents invention, genius, and personal power, as well as such positive attributes of vibrant health and intuition.
Intuitive, progressive about ideas and fascinated by science. These are popular if a bit eccentric, sometimes rather accident prone. Gifted with language, often choosing not to complete their education and feeling like they don’t really need to. Good at electronics and fascinated by obscure topics. Gemini Uranus are attracted to change for change’s sake, but also great at selling the idea of change and evolution to others.
Neptune: Neptune is the eighth planet from the Sun. It is the fourth-largest planet in our Solar System, 17 times larger than Earth. Neptune is named for the Roman god of the sea. Within your natal chart, it signifies new horizons, spiritual healing and service to others or – alternately - becoming lost in a foggy world of fantasy and dreams. More often than not, Neptune highlights confusion in the House wherever it resides in your birth chart.
Good communicators, easy to get along with, but a bit naïve about how the world works. These are highly intuitive people who might have the gift of prophecy, and do well working with children or in mathematics. But concentration is a problem – they have restless minds and when not focused, might be taken advantage of by others. They enjoy poetry, are open-minded about religion and spirituality, but they need to back their words up with meaningful action. Keep the babble to a minimum, focus on offering true wisdom instead.
Pluto: Pluto, currently classified as a ‘dwarf planet’ is the ninth planet from the Sun, primarily made up of ice and rock. It’s small – about one/sixth the size of our Moon and was only discovered in 1930. Named for the Roman God of the Underworld, Pluto is all about rebirth, regeneration and redemption. It demands that we shed what no longer serves us, and to transcend from a lesser being into a more evolved one. Pluto loves destruction and it rules death, obsessions, kidnappings (!), coercion, viruses and waste. (Probably doesn’t shock you that when COVID19 begin, Pluto and Capricorn had both combined in Saturn.) Pluto also governs crime, the underworld, any kind of subversive activities including dictatorships, and all that is hidden and secretive.
Where Pluto demands that we shed our skins and release old, unsustainable habits, shows up in what Star Sign it is in on your chart.
Intellectual, intrigued by new ideas, and insatiably curious. These are great thought leaders, who can handle complexity and easily find solutions to everyday problems. But that curiosity sometimes has to be reined in so that it doesn’t become scattered and minimized. These can be great community organizers, not afraid to be the change they want to see in the world. They are great at telecommunications and film, and often advance new methods of communication and knowledge.
True Node: True Node isn’t a planet in our constellation, but rather the real position of the Moon’s node at any time. Your True Node (often referred to as North Node) in your natal chart is considered your ideal life path: a path that you should follow in order to reach your fulfilment and ultimate satisfaction. It represents the skills, talents, knowledge, and attitudes one needs to develop in this life to reach your highest potential.
Additionally, you have a South Node that serves as a counterpart to your True Node. They work as a team and always land in zodiac signs that oppose each other. Together, they point out your life’s greatest lessons including what you have already mastered, where you are going and what you must accomplish to get there. Essentially, your True Node points the direction to where you’re going karmically, and South Node informs where you already have been.
Live and let live needs to be your motto. You can’t force things or people. You like a very fast pace in life, and need an environment in which speed is an asset. Constantly talking, creating, composing – maybe a little too fast at times. Let the world catch up to you. Take a break, have some fun while everyone else forward at their own pace. You’re a great communicator, curious about world cultures and traditions. Share that knowledge bring others into your fast-moving orbit.
Reminder: if your True Node was in Taurus, your South Node will be exactly the opposite zodiacal sign, which is Sagittarius (South Node – where you have been – indicates a lot of expansive Jupiterian energy in your past).
Chiron: Chiron is also not a planet, but an ice body between Saturn and Uranus, that orbits the sun with a unique and erratic orbit. Chiron goes through many retrogrades. In the natal chart, Chiron is symbolized by the “wounded healer.” It represents our deepest wound, and our efforts to heal the wound. Chiron was named for the centaur in Greek mythology who was a healer but who, ironically, could not heal himself. When Chiron moves through the universe, it reveals what is broken in our society. Chiron asks what holds us back and what makes us feel liberated.
Chiron Taurus is looking to heal how they communicate. They might be shy, or isolated, or have a speech impediment and not be able to communicate clearly. They may feel nobody really listens to them. It will take time, but these troubles can be overcome. Focus on what you are knowledgeable about to build confidence. Do more research, and practice with writing projects. Your gift is that you can broaden others horizons in meaningful ways. You just need the strength and courage to share your message.
Your Midheaven represents your top achievements, your accomplishments and the responsibility you play in the larger world.
Midheaven in Gemini love to be the center of social gatherings, but they also want to be the epicenter of information. Highly intelligent, never superficial and intriguing to all who talk with them. These folks gravitate toward careers in communication, and what seems initially like shallowness turns out to be the easy interactivity with others. Expression is important, including writing and speaking, and these folks love to talk about everything under the sun!
Black Moon Lilith: Black Moon Lilith marks the furthest point of the moon’s orbit around the earth. Essentially, the moon’s elliptical orbit has two center points – earth, and Black Moon Lilith. It is not a planet, but rather a point in space without a physical body, transverse from the Earth. Black Moon Lilith stays approximately nine months in each sign, making a revolution every eight years and nine months.
Black Moon Lilith represents our most primitive urges and impulses, our repressed sexuality and the darkest parts of our psyche. She may also reveal hidden fantasies and fetishes.
These folks have issues with communication – either they say the wrong thing (foot in mouth syndrome) constantly, or they are fearful of speaking their mind. But they are fast learners, good observers of others. Don’t let fear of communicating get in your way – but don’t just talk without reason either.
Additionally, let’s talk about the 3rd House of our Natal Charts since Gemini rules that one:
The Third House reflects our thoughts and perspectives, the way we communicate as well as our writing and speaking styles, research and data collection, our relationship with siblings, our early education, our neighborhoods, and how we socialize. What shows up in your 3rd House?
