Divine Masculine
We have talked before about the dual nature of the universe. The yin and yang, the masculine and feminine energies that exist in everything and that fuel everything.
In our blog on the Divine Feminine, we talked about balance. When one thing happens, something else reacts. The most powerful thing we deal with a day to day basis is the Earth itself – the planet we live upon. Just like everything else, life on Planet Earth is a balancing act. In many ways its a delicate chemical composition and all the ingredients have to be just so in order to sustain life for us and all the animal and plant life that exist here.
The Divine Feminine becomes a call for balance and restoration in our spiritual, mystical and material lives simply because the status quo for the last few thousand years have been dominated by Male energy. That isn’t necessarily a bad thing – it’s imbalance that is bad, not either of the two energies. God itself – the Divine Source – is equally masculine and feminine. We invoke the Divine Feminine not to usurp power from men and give it to women, but to ask for a peaceful and practical restoration of equality. The best way to do that is to honor the feminine within each of us – and yes, that includes those of us who are male.
Because just like the earth, we are also comprised of both masculine and feminine energy, masculine and feminine power. Some people call the Divine Feminine Shakti – which is what Hindus call the Creatrix (feminine form of Creator) of the Universe. Some call it Yin – the partner to Yang. The Divine Feminine is associated with the moon and lunar energy. It is also associated with the elements of Earth (Gaia) and water.
In the best possible situation, feminine and masculine energies work in unison and collaboration. That is what yin and yang is – perfect harmony. It is when we try to separate out the masculine and feminine force within us, that we create division within ourselves and certainly, in our societies.
Chaos can literally be defined as an imbalance of feminine or masculine energy.
Now this isn’t to denigrate Masculine energy, which is also divine. The Divine Masculine is responsible for progress and evolution, efficiency and rules - which we do need. The Divine Masculine is the Yang to the Divine Feminine’s Yin. But the shadow side of the Divine Masculine is a preoccupation with power – again, seeking to hold on to rulership structures at any cost.
We talked about how men might adopt their own divine feminine energy, by becoming soft without being weak. Now it’s time to talk about the Divine Masculine energy and how each of us – male and female alike – might use that energy to fuel us.
Male energy is direct, a straight line, projecting outward. It secures and has a giving nature. The right side of your body (and left side of your brain) are predominantly male so you already have the divine masculine within you.
Female energy is cyclic, directed inward. It nurtures and has a receiving nature. The divine feminine controls the left side of your body, and right side of your brain.
If the Divine Feminine is powerful, loving, faithful, observant, and creating, then the Divine Masculine is powerful, focused, active, authoritative, and generous.
Fear of the Divine Feminine within men can cause rage and violence. Fear of the Divine Masculine within women can cause inertia and fear.
So is incumbent upon each of us to nurture both feminine and masculine energy for our greater good, and the greater good of all around us.
Examples of strong Divine Masculine energy are represented as balanced, not reckless, diplomatic, honest, protective, honorable and adventurous. Everyone could use some of this in their life, right?
Anytime you find that your Masculine/Feminine energies are out of balance, I encourage you to do the following exercise.
Sit comfortably in a meditative position, or even in front of a mirror. List three things each that are Masculine and Feminine, alternating between them, about yourself. As an example:
I am strong / I am supportive (masc fem)
I am nurturing / I am no nonsense (fem masc)
I am courageous / I am creative (masc fem)

When he does appear, he is often humiliated such as in the Trojan War which they lose because Ares has an affair with Hephaestus’ wife Aphrodite.
